Return of colonial cultural objects to Indonesia
◆7 sources
The Netherlands returned 20 cultural objects to Indonesia that had been taken to the Netherlands during the colonial period through theft, coercion or other unjust means, following advice from the Colonial Collections Committee. The objects include the Diamond of Banjarmasin, which had belonged to the Sultan of Banjarmasin, a handwritten Quran, a traditional sword and several tombstones. Eighteen of the objects had been held by the Wereldmuseum and two by the Rijksmuseum. Reports differed on the diamond's weight, describing it as either 36 carats or more than 38 carats.
