Restored Karbonkel puppet goes on display

The Karbonkel puppet from the Dutch youth series Ik Mik Loreland was restored after spending years in a corner of the Beeld & Geluid depot. It is on public display from Saturday, allowing visitors to see the character in person. Puppeteer Siem van Leeuwen said the encounter may show that Karbonkel is not as frightening as some viewers remembered.

The television puppet Karbonkel from the children’s series Ik Mik Loreland is to be shown to the public for the first time at Beeld & Geluid in Hilversum from 10 October. The one-eyed character has undergone restoration. The museum is staging a Halloween-themed Karbonkel Experience, in which visitors are prepared in a dark room before encountering the puppet. The display remains open during the following month.
