Kees van den Berg received the Respect Award from sports alderman Sofyan Mbarki for founding and leading a weekly athletics group for people with Parkinson’s disease. Van den Berg started the group after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s himself. The group trains every Thursday afternoon at AV23’s facilities in the Middenmeer sports park, where Van den Berg has coached fellow patients for years.
