There were no trains between Alkmaar and Zaandam from Monday 12 October through Saturday 17 October because of railway works. NS used replacement buses between Wormerveer, Krommenie-Assendelft and Uitgeest, with extra travel time for passengers. Trains were scheduled to resume on Sunday 18 October. ProRail renewed the railway crossings at Vlietsend, Provincialeweg (N203) and Korte Industrieweg in Krommenie, removing the old crossings and installing new ones. Work was also carried out at Uitgeest station, including the replacement of rails, ballast and wooden sleepers. ProRail said the work was needed to keep the track in good condition.
