Professor of Energy Technology David Smeulders of Eindhoven University of Technology called for the Netherlands not to permanently close all gas wells in Groningen. He said pouring concrete into the wells was like throwing away the key to a storage cellar. The call drew criticism in Groningen, and was compared with an earlier position attributed to TNO.
