Police found 116 kilos of fireworks in a house in Veenendaal. The residence came to their attention during a hackathon involving several police departments and the Public Prosecution Service, focused in this case on detecting prohibited fireworks.

Separately, a new report raised concerns about increasing risks for young people in Veenendaal, including involvement in crime, online drug and vape trafficking, and the sharing of nude images on canals. It said youth services had to continue with fewer staff and that the municipality faced the task of strengthening those services and making vulnerable young people more visible.
