Plans for two new villages in Oosterwold

Zeewolde may get two new villages in the Oosterwold area, with space for up to 15,000 homes. The municipality of Zeewolde, the Dutch state and a group of developers signed an agreement to advance the plans. If the plans proceed, construction could start in 2030, with an ambition to build 1,000 homes a year. The municipality also said it wants to focus on facilities, jobs, nature and accessibility. Large-scale housing development in the area has been considered for some time. Developers Amvest and Heijmans and housing corporation De Alliantie had previously presented plans for a new city called Eemvallei City, with 50,000 homes. The plans encountered resistance, and the parties have recently acquired substantial amounts of land in Oosterwold.
