Planned Ukrainian refugee shelter in Almere moves forward

A temporary emergency shelter for 30 to 40 Ukrainian refugees at Juan Grisstraat in Almere’s district Between the Vaarten appears set to go ahead. The facility will be shared with residential care centre Castrovalva.

The municipality had withdrawn earlier permit applications for Juan Grisstraat and Louis Armstrongweg, saying they had been submitted too soon. A new application for Juan Grisstraat was approved on 7 October. Work does not appear to require a new environmental permit, and residents and other interested parties can object within six weeks. It remains unclear whether a final decision has been made to expand the number of reception places.
