Nuisance returns to Roerdompplein in Haarlem as cameras are reinstated

Nuisance involving groups of young people has reportedly returned to Roerdompplein in Haarlem after a quiet summer. Residents say young people gather, shout and race along the pavement, while passers-by are intimidated and homes and cars have been damaged by eggs and fireworks. Broken vodka bottles have also been found near a primary school on the square. Mayor Jos Wienen had earlier introduced cameras, an area ban and periodic penalty payments for minors, after which the situation appeared to calm down. The cameras have now been put back in place, but residents fear that the attention may encourage the young people rather than deter them.
