Travellers have reportedly been able to cross the border between Shenzhen and Hong Kong in about five minutes since Monday, following the opening of a new border post. Facial-recognition equipment is used for registered travellers, reducing the processing time from about 30 minutes. The post has 134 automated passages; travellers do not need to show their travel documents but must keep them available.

The authorities expect at least 100,000 people to use the crossing each day.
