Several municipalities in Flevoland raised the rainbow flag on Friday ahead of Coming Out Day on Sunday, to draw attention to the visibility and acceptance of LGBTQIA+ people. Urk and Dronten did not raise the flag, while Zeewolde plans to do so on Monday. Almere and Lelystad did not respond to questions about their participation. In Noordoostpolder, the flag was raised at 10 a.m. at the library in Emmeloord because the town hall garden is being renovated. It will remain there throughout the weekend. Urk cited religious considerations for not raising the flag, while Dronten referred to a new municipal flag protocol.
