The family of Dutch model Ivana Smit lost an appeal in a civil case against the Malaysian government over compensation. A Malaysian judge had previously awarded compensation and found that the investigation into Smit’s death had been seriously flawed and negligent.

The Malaysian authorities appealed that ruling, and the higher court set it aside. The reports indicate that the investigation into her death has again stalled.
