Maarten van der Weijden ends swimming and fundraising

7 sources

Maarten van der Weijden ended his swimming activities and fundraising through the Maarten van der Weijden Foundation. He said the work had become too burdensome. One report said symptoms associated with a stomach flu had worsened, and that the most recent fundraising campaign raised more than half a million euros for cancer research. Earlier reports said he was also ending the foundation, but later reports clarified that it remains active. It will continue its supervisory role in ongoing cancer-research projects for which funds have already been collected.
