Longer braking distances on new road surfaces in Flevoland

Roadworks in Flevoland have led to warnings about longer braking distances when roads reopen. According to the province, the stones in newly laid asphalt are initially partly covered by a thin layer of bitumen, meaning the surface has not yet reached its maximum roughness. Grip can therefore be slightly lower during this initial period, especially during hard braking, sudden skidding or wet weather. Road users are advised to keep enough distance, adjust their speed and remain extra alert.
