Lelystad woman can remain in home after arson attacks

A court ruled that a woman from Lelystad does not have to leave her rented home in the Karveel district for now. The landlord, Jannink Beheer, had sought to end her tenancy after the home was targeted by arson between June and December 2025 and was attacked twice with gunfire at the end of December. A home on De Horst, where the woman’s family lives, was also involved in incidents, and the mayor temporarily closed the Karveel home twice.
The court said the incidents were serious but found no evidence that the woman had caused them or that other people’s conduct could be attributed to her. It also ruled that the landlord had waited too long after the last closure, which ended on January 2, to seek termination of the tenancy. The woman had lived there for more than eight years, with no known problems before 2025, and no new incidents had occurred since December. The court therefore considered eviction too far-reaching. It rejected the woman’s requests for repairs to the damaged front door and a 10 percent rent reduction, and ordered both parties to bear their own costs.
