King Haakon visited the Norwegian armed forces for the first time since becoming king. He visited the Jarfjord border station near the Russian border, where images shared by the royal court showed him meeting and speaking with military personnel.
The Norwegian royal family gradually resumed official duties after the mourning period for King Harald, which began after his death on 28 August and ran until 9 October. King Haakon was to resume work visits, while larger trips and state visits were not to be held during the autumn and winter. A single report said Queen Mette-Marit was not yet active.
Queen Mother Sonja returned to work with a visit to the National Archives in Oslo, where messages, drawings and letters left at the palace square after Harald's death are kept. The royal household's website also moved her from the list of members of the royal house to that of other members of the royal family. On his first official work visit as king, to Narvik, Haakon thanked the public for its support and said he missed conversations with his father.
