State Secretary for Emancipation Judith Tielen said the debate over raising the rainbow flag at the House of Representatives the following Sunday was unnecessary fuss. She said the parliament represents the public and that displaying the flag there was therefore not inappropriate. Tielen said people should not be distracted by attempts to make the rainbow flag political, adding that it concerns freedom and equality for everyone rather than politics.
