Irish EU presidency's proposal for the 2028-2034 budget

The Irish presidency of the EU proposed cutting €140 billion from the European Commission's proposed multiannual EU budget for 2028-2034. The presidency's negotiating framework is due to be discussed by EU leaders at a summit the following week. The European Parliament called the proposal unacceptable and said it wanted a €2.2 trillion EU budget. One report described the Irish proposal as raising €140 billion from the Commission's proposal of nearly €2 trillion, conflicting with the reports that it would remove that amount.
