India ranks among the top three for obesity, while taboos hinder slimming-drug sales

India was described as one of the world’s three countries with the highest levels of obesity, but social taboos were reported to be limiting sales of slimming drugs. The country’s prosperous middle class, increasingly urban lifestyles and sedentary jobs, along with calorie-rich cuisine, had appeared to make it a promising market for slimming products.
