A global research effort into a new vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human metapneumovirus (HMPV) was reported. The viruses were described as major causes of respiratory infections among older people worldwide, but they are often not routinely tested for in people with flu-like symptoms, even though they can cause similarly severe illness.
