Fire destroys warehouse with classic cars in Aalsmeer

A fire destroyed a warehouse on the Oostinderweg in Aalsmeer, leaving dozens of tenants without their stored possessions. The debris included classic cars, motorcycles, equipment and personal belongings, including furniture belonging to deceased relatives. A day later, the site still smelled strongly of smoke, with burnt-out vehicles visible among the rubble as tenants searched for anything recognizable.
Several tenants lost vehicles on which they had spent years working; one said his car had taken three years of work and had never been driven, while another said his classic car was about 80 percent finished. Some tenants were insured and others were not, and one tenant said a car worth €70,000 had been stored there. The fire's cause remains unclear. Stories that a car battery may have started it have not been confirmed, and the fire brigade is not investigating the cause.
