FC Volendam were due to host Vitesse in the Eerste Divisie. Volendam started the match in 11th place and Vitesse in eighth; a Volendam win would move the home side above Vitesse. Vitesse were reported to be missing five players. FC Volendam coach Erwin van de Looi was still unable to use defender Erik Schouten, who had been injured since last playing against FC Den Bosch on 13 September.
