FC Utrecht beat Willem II 3-1, ending a poor start to the season in which the team had taken five points from its first seven matches and stood 15th. Coach Anthony Correia said he was satisfied that his side had fought as a team again. During the preceding international break, Correia had used two weeks of intensive training to work on his playing system and had organised a demanding team-building activity. He said the tension of that activity was intended to bring the squad closer together and suggested it may have helped.
