Farmers flood pastures amid extreme mouse plague

An extreme mouse plague, attributed to drought, reportedly left parcels of grassland completely bare. Farmers flooded their pastures in an effort to drive out or drown the mice. The measure provided only limited relief, while the damage to the farms had already been incurred.
