Explosion at apartment building in Slotermeer

One person was injured, apparently by glass fragments, when an explosion struck the entrance of an apartment building on Jan Cupidohof in Amsterdam's Slotermeer district on Tuesday evening. The explosion occurred at about 10:10 p.m. and caused extensive damage to the apartment entrance; part of a mailbox was blown across the water.

Forensic police investigated for hours. Some residents were initially unable to return during the investigation and remained unable to enter because of an asbestos risk.
