Lifting of one-way shipping restrictions on the IJssel
◆8 sources
Rijkswaterstaat lifted one-way shipping restrictions on the IJssel between Arnhem and Zutphen after the river’s water level rose. Ships can again travel in both directions; the restriction had been in place for more than two weeks because low water made the channel too shallow for safe two-way traffic. It had also affected vessels bound for the Twente Canal.
A single report said vessels approaching from Germany had previously had to detour via Amsterdam and the IJsselmeer, adding about 300 kilometres. Rijkswaterstaat continues to monitor water levels and does not rule out further measures, saying the drought period is not over.
