Efforts to arrest Jos Leijdekkers expand to neighbouring countries

The Dutch government is supporting the police in Ghana in an effort to secure the early arrest of Jos Leijdekkers, described as the country’s most wanted criminal. Leijdekkers is reported to be hiding in neighbouring Sierra Leone with the knowledge of local rulers. Justice and Security Minister David van Weel hopes that cooperation with Ghanaian police will help disrupt Leijdekkers’ drug networks and increase the chances of his arrest within a year.

Conviction of Cologne official over fraudulent passports

A former Cologne municipal official was given a suspended sentence of more than a year for bribery after arranging fraudulent passports for criminal figures. Reports identified Dutch fugitive drug trafficker Bolle Jos Leijdekkers, members of his family and business associates among those assisted; two reports said he received three passports. One report also said the official helped major cocaine smugglers, including a Brazilian figure described as Escobar.
