A record 3,130 schools are taking part in Purple Friday, the annual school event in which pupils and staff show support for an environment where everyone can be themselves, regardless of sexual orientation, religion or skin colour. Organiser COC Nederland reported growing participation, including increasing interest from primary schools. The event is taking place amid concerns about declining acceptance of LGBTQ+ people among young people. Reports described secondary-school pupils encountering less visible support and hostile comments online and in public, while some schools are adapting how they discuss the subject and others say the need for Purple Friday has become stronger.
