Douglas Stuart, a 48-year-old former fashion designer, travelled through Europe last month in connection with his novel *John, Son of John*, which was nominated for the Booker Prize. Amsterdam was the final stop before the Scottish writer returned to his home in the United States. He said he had given Oprah Winfrey a unique gift to thank her for her support.
