The municipality of Diemen plans to designate more roads with a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour to improve traffic safety, reduce regional traffic through the municipality and create more space for pedestrians and cyclists, including safer crossings. It hopes lower speeds will encourage car traffic to use other routes, such as motorways.

Diemen is also continuing to seek a reduction of the speed limit on the A1 and A10 near the municipality to 80 kilometers per hour, citing air quality and noise reduction as aims.
