A decision was expected on Friday on whether to widen the A50 between the Ewijk and Bankhoef interchanges. The widening was described as vital for the region between Nijmegen and Oss. If it were cancelled, the region was expected to face severe traffic congestion, additional deaths and millions of euros in economic damage, with the area potentially becoming blocked on four sides.

The decision on the road project was still pending.
