De Oliemeulen starts crowdfunding campaign

Animal park De Oliemeulen in Tilburg has started a crowdfunding campaign to help finance the dismantling, transport and reconstruction of a large greenhouse it has been offered. The park said its financial reserves had fallen after a series of setbacks, including the death of founder and owner Jan Walhout, the removal of an unsafe playground, storm damage to animal enclosures, the collapse of an old building block, the purchase of a new business van, rising costs and a disappointing summer with several heat waves and fewer visitors than usual. The organization also said that Walhout’s daughter, who now runs the park, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
De Oliemeulen said it wants to use the greenhouse to develop the park and create larger, improved animal enclosures. The campaign is intended to raise enough money to bring the greenhouse to Tilburg, as the park said it cannot currently cover the associated costs itself.
