A majority of the Midden-Drenthe municipal council decided that swimming pool De Melte will close on November 9, after its possible closure had been under discussion for a year. Political representatives also advocated creating new swimming opportunities in Smilde. The closure was presented as becoming permanent, while the possibility of swimming facilities in the village remains open.
