Court upheld towing from Amsterdam loading bay

A court rejected a motorist’s challenge to the towing of his car from a loading bay on Nieuwe Passerdersstraat in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district on 16 November 2024. The driver said he had left the car there after 8 p.m. while collecting his mother from a nearby care home and argued that it was arbitrary because other cars remained in the bay.
The court found that the municipality could make enforcement capacity choices and that towing only his car was not unlawful. It also found no basis for his claim that the parking restriction applied only during daytime hours. Enforcement officers reported seeing neither loading or unloading activity nor a driver for at least 10 minutes, so the penalty must be paid.
