Council of State approves Almere container location near school route

The Council of State ruled that four underground waste containers in Almere’s Stripledenbuurt may be placed on Daan Hoeksemastraat, near Flipjestraat. Residents had objected because the street is busier and is used as a school route, arguing that emptying the containers could create dangerous traffic situations. They preferred the original location on Jochem Jofelstraat.

After an interim ruling, Almere commissioned a traffic assessment. It found that both locations are on 30 km/h streets with no more than 3,000 vehicle movements per day, and that the difference in traffic levels was negligible. The Council of State said the assessment was sufficiently convincing and that an independent traffic survey was not necessary. It also considered the Hoeksemastraat location more suitable because residents there would not have the containers in view from their homes.
