The Sluisbrug in Weesp was closed on 21 September to cars, cyclists and pedestrians for repair work and is expected to remain closed until December. The bridge connects the old centre with the Herengracht. Residents and businesses were reportedly surprised by the closure, while communication from the municipality was described as unsatisfactory; Weesp’s daily administration was also said not to have known about it. At a committee meeting, the BIZ spoke on behalf of businesses in the old centre. They said they had not been allowed to contribute to the plans and that visitor numbers had fallen. They want cyclists and pedestrians to be allowed to cross the bridge at weekends and are seeking compensation.
