Environmental chemist Jacob de Boer warned in his book *Gif* that monitoring of chemicals is inadequate. He said the combined effects of substances such as PFAS, pesticides, bisphenols and flame retardants on the environment and the human body were alarming. The book also states that a new chemical is developed every two seconds.
