Rail suicide prevention campaign in the Netherlands

Suicide-prevention organisation 113 and railway companies launched the “Life to a Halt” campaign, in which train staff and ProRail employees share their experiences to draw attention to the impact of suicides and suicide attempts on the rail network. The campaign urges people to start a conversation with someone they believe may be at risk.

Around 200 people in the Netherlands die each year after being hit by a train, while suicide attempts are more numerous. Railway workers described intervening with people near tracks and stations and said they receive training to recognise signs of suicidal behaviour and bring people to safety.
