The cabinet has proposed reducing additional safety requirements and standardizing infrastructure projects. Municipalities and provinces that want extras for bridges, viaducts or aqueducts would have to pay for them themselves. Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Vincent Karremans said the measure could save €2.3 billion; the proposal was due to be considered by the Council of Ministers.
