Best expects planned homes to connect despite grid congestion

◆1 source

The municipality of Best assumes that planned new homes can be connected to the electricity grid from 2028 onward, despite congestion on the grid. At the end of September, it was reported that congestion could temporarily freeze housing plans in five municipalities in the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region, including Best. The outlook for the wider Brainport region was less positive: without a prompt solution, 75% of the region’s new-build plans could be unable to proceed in the coming years. Nearly 24,000 of more than 31,000 homes had been registered for Enexis’s transitional scheme, covering projects that can start by early 2029. Best was among the municipalities identified as most affected, with 2,457 planned homes, alongside Asten, Nuenen, Son en Breugel and Waalre.

2 sources

Enexis informed the municipality of Groningen that planned housing in the City Ports district and new parts of Meerstad cannot for the time being be assured of a connection to the electricity grid. Aldermen Rik van Niegenhuis and Manouska Molema reported this to the city council in an urgent email. The municipality’s grid is full and new connection applications are on a waiting list. It has published an address-level priority list for housing and education. Enexis later confirmed that it cannot guarantee grid connections for City Ports and Meerstad.
