Arrests in Breda migrant-smuggling investigation

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee arrested two men from Breda, aged 45 and 49, on Tuesday in an investigation into the suspected smuggling of migrants from Syria to Europe via Turkey. They are also suspected of money laundering and unlicensed underground banking linked to the smuggling operation.

Investigators searched four homes and three business premises in Breda, Papendrecht, Woerden, Rotterdam and Delft. They seized travel and identity documents, data carriers, more than €130,000 in cash, vehicles and jewellery. The investigation, led by the National Public Prosecutors’ Office and the public prosecutor, is continuing.
