A 20-year-old man from Capelle aan den IJssel was arrested last week on suspicion of threatening a terrorist offence and preparing a terrorist crime. The prosecution said he had stated that he wanted to carry out an attack with as many victims as possible and had identified a specific target, which it did not disclose.

Police searched his home and found a sword, two knives and an air gun, and seized laptops and mobile phones. An investigating judge ordered the suspect to remain in pretrial detention for a further 14 days. The investigation is ongoing.
