At least 24 vehicles were reportedly set on fire on Thursday during riots against migrants in Soweto, near Johannesburg, and in Durban. Shops belonging to foreigners were also looted. The South African Ministry of the Interior withdrew a controversial directive on asylum applications on Friday, but the unrest had not yet subsided.
