Amsterdam municipality ordered to provide shelter to Surinamese mother

An Amsterdam judge ruled that a Surinamese mother of two Dutch-national children may use emergency shelter. Although she is not formally entitled to it because she has no regional connection, the court considered the children’s interests more important.
The ruling means that the municipality of Amsterdam must provide the woman with shelter despite her lack of a formal right to it.
