Acquittal after fatal traffic accident in Deventer

A man was acquitted after an 81-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck in Deventer last year. The court said it had not been proven that he was speeding. The man left the courtroom in tears. He was initially described as 43 and from Zutphen, while a later account identified him as 27 and from Deventer. That account said he had driven at 110 kilometres per hour through a crossing where the limit was 50 and had to surrender his driving licence after police recorded his speed with a laser gun.
