A visit to the hidden Binnenkadijk

A television program visited the Binnenkadijk, a green public street hidden behind the Entrepotdok near Artis in Amsterdam. The street is situated above eighteenth-century warehouses whose middle section was removed in the early 1980s by architect Joop van Stigt to create space for small businesses and social housing.

The visit featured residents including Jesse, who converted a baking bicycle into emergency shelter during a period without housing before receiving a social rental home on the Binnenkadijk, and Marijke and Manuel, whose garden contains fruit trees and berries. The tour also included Marijke’s collection of images and a cultural object from New Guinea, and ended at the studio home of artist Bert, where visitors received an introduction to working with stained glass.

A visit to Groenhoven in Amsterdam-Zuidoost

1 source

An episode about Groenhoven in Amsterdam-Zuidoost visited the neighborhood’s ten apartment buildings, which are connected by glass fire stairways overlooking the green Joop van Stigtpark. The buildings’ inner streets, lifts and shared spaces were designed to encourage residents to meet one another, in line with architect Joop van Stigt’s aim of creating places for social contact. Manon said she had moved to Groenhoven by chance after finding an affordable home and had gradually become attached to the neighborhood. She said that, unlike in her previous home, one of her neighbors had become one of her best friends.
